Your very first session will be an assessment of your current needs and difficulties and you will be given feedback on this. A bespoke treatment plan will then be discussed.
All face-to-face sessions last 50 minutes, Skype sessions last I hour. Many people are initially a little nervous about seeing a psychologist but are usually very quickly at ease.
We understand the nature of our appointments is very private and can be distressing. Confidentiality is taken extremely seriously and the details of this will be discussed before you start discussing your problems.
Any necessary correspondence with other people (e.g. GP, Consultants, solicitors, HR) will be discussed and agreed with you first. You will always be copied in. Discretion and professional judgement will be used with regard to the detail of information provided in correspondence.
Everyone is an individual and can find improvement in different techniques or therapies. There is no obligation to continue with treatment, therefore having an initial assessment with a Clinical Psychologist to see how help can be given is the best approach. Generally-speaking, six sessions is often the minimum of effective psychological treatment.
